Tips on skin care while wearing a mask

From Sarah Motl, PA-C, RAMC Medical & Cosmetic Dermatoloy

  • Wash face before putting on mask for the day and after taking the mask off for the day.
  • Use a gentle cleanser that is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic.
  • For a good, gentle cleaner try Cetaphil or CeraVe products.
  • If you are acne prone or developing acne from wearing the mask look for a wash or spot treatment with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Use this after taking the mask off for the day.
  • Avoid wearing make up on your lower face…no one can see it anyway!
  • For any skin breakdown/irritation use a barrier such as Aquaphor.
  • Moisturize after washing your face at the end of the day with a
  • moisturizing cream (Cetaphil or CeraVe cream)
