Carey CrakerI would like to take a minute to introduce myself! My name is Carey Craker and I am the Marketing and Volunteer Services Associate for Reedsburg Area Medical Center. Let me be the first to say that I am very excited that you are looking into our Volunteer Program! We have a dedicated group of volunteers and I hope that you will consider being part of our team.

As the Volunteer Services Associate, it is my job to support our volunteers as well as find, train and match volunteers to places that will bring them fulfillment and enjoyment. We have many options available and I know that we can find an area that will be a perfect fit for you and your life.

All volunteers are required to complete an application, health history and TB screening (required for all patient care volunteers), criminal background check, interview, general orientation and specific training prior to a service area match. Prospective volunteers are offered and encouraged to take the opportunity to shadow current volunteers in one or more areas prior to accepting a service area match.


ACU -Surgery Information Desk

This volunteer position is responsible to assist surgery patients, visitors and employees with information needed as they enter the surgical area. This may include: 

  • Greeting families in the waiting area.
  • Monitor desk in surgery waiting room and be a resource for individuals waiting for loved ones.
  • Help families navigate within and outside of the hospital under the direction of the AS/PACU charge nurse. 
  • Collect patients from the hospital reception area and or transport patients back to the reception area after discharge.
  • May be asked to help with office tasks.
  • Light cleaning. 

This Volunteer position requires 4 hours minimum. 

Adopt a Grandparent

This volunteer position is great for individuals of Middle School age and beyond! There is variety in this position and does not need to include in person or on campus activities. See below for the many different options of this program:

  • Visiting residents in the Senior Life Center.
  • Sitting with residents talking with them.
  • Be a PenPal. 

Volunteers help ease social isolation in the elderly population and promote mutual learning and understanding. The Adopt a Grandparent Program creates relationships that last a lifetime.

This Volunteer position required regular contact whether in person or by mail. 

Baking for our Blood Drives

Our Red Cross Blood Drives take place 4 times a year. We are looking for individuals who love to make cookies, bars and easy to eat treats for the individual who donate blood. 

Church Service Assistant

This Volunteer position is for individuals Middle School age and beyond. Each week on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m. we need individuals to help us with assisting individuals in our Senior Life Center to, during and from the church service. 

Dining Service Assistant

This volunteer position is responsible to assist the Senior Life Center with meal time service. This Volunteer position could be open to individual who are Middle School age and beyond. Volunteer duties may include: 

  • Preparing the food service rea with drinks, utensils and napkins.
  • Plating food onto trays.
  • Abiding by meal service guidelines including safe food handling procedures. 
  • Greeting all guests with a smile.
  • Providing guests with a warm, welcoming environment in which they can enjoy their meal.
  • Distributing trays of food to guests.
  • Maintaining dining room cleanliness.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing the dining room's tables and chairs after the guests finish their meal and leave the area. 

This Volunteer position is 2 hours minimum. 

Entertainment Assistant

This volunteer position is responsible to assist the Senior Life Center with entertainment activities. This Volunteer position could be open to individual who are Middle School age and beyond. Volunteer duties may include:

  • Helping Seniors to the entertainment area.
  • Helping Seniors with crafts, books, hobbies, games or generally assisting Seniors with what is needed for them to enjoy the activities. 
  • Helping Seniors return to their rooms or community area. 

This Volunteer position is 2 hours minimum. 

Entertainment/Talent

The Senior Life Center would love to see the talents you have! 

We would welcome any activity that you believe our senior population would enjoy!

Some ideas may include:

  • Come play an instrument (we have a piano!).
  • Perform a play.
  • Singing.
  • Cheerleading practice.
  • Reading a book aloud.
  • Speeches.
Garden Weed & Water

This position is for Volunteers interested in performing general gardening practices outdoors and is available for Volunteers Middle School age and beyond.

This Volunteer should be enthusiastic about plants, communicate well with staff and the public and not mind repetitive tasks. 

This Volunteer position includes:

  • General gardening chores such as watering and weeding. 
  • Stooping, bending and lifting. 
  • Occasional visitor inquiries. 

This Volunteer position is 2 times per week for approximately 1 hour each time. 

Gift Shop at Reedsburg Area Medical Center

This position is for Volunteers interested in helping with our 100% volunteer run Gift Shop. Duties may include:

  • Assisting customers and offering suggestions.
  • Ringing up customer transactions.
  • Assisting with marking merchandise.
  • Product placement.
  • Being a warm, friendly presence for our patients, families and staff. 

This Volunteer position is a minimum of 4 hours. 

Hospital Information Desk

This volunteer position is responsible to assist patients, visitors and employees with information needed as they enter the hospital. This may include: 

  • Correct and clear direction communication along with escorting individuals to their destination.
  • Making deliveries.
  • Sanitizing wheelchairs.
  • Maintaining an organized lobby.
  • May be asked to help with office tasks.
  • Light cleaning. 
  • May be asked to help with the ACU/Surgery information duties as needed. 

This Volunteer position requires 4 hours minimum. 

Library Assistant

This volunteer position is great for individuals of Middle School age and beyond! The Senior Life Center needs an individual who will help organize their little Library. This may include:

  • Organizing shelves and books.
  • Rotating books and movies.
  • Making sure movies are returned and in the correct cases and/or with the movie inside.
  • Review book donations.
  • Light cleaning.
  • Assisting seniors.

This position is approximately 1 hour once a week. 

Light Cleaning and Sanitizing

This Volunteer position will assist will assist the Senior Life Center as well as other areas of the hospital with light cleaning and sanitizing. 

 

This Volunteer position hours will vary. 

Trishaw Pilot- Cycling without Age

This Volunteer position will transport individuals on our Trishaw Bicycle. A Trishaw Bike is an electric-assist pedal bicycle that is used to transport passengers who have mobility issues. This Volunteer position includes the ability to be able to do the following:

  • Age 18 and older.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Undergo Trishaw Bike training (provided by RAMC).
  • Willingness to learn how to pedal and electric assist trishaw. (You do not need to be an avid cyclist.)
  • Physically and mentally capable of pedaling a trishaw.
  • Ability to stay calm should an emergency arise.

The hours for this Volunteer position will vary. 

ReSale Beyond the Expected

Process donations and keep our shelves stocked with merchandise.

Our adult thrift store volunteers will commit to serve weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly for 2-4 hours. Days and hours are flexible depending on the nature of the position and your availability.
