Breastfeeding Support in Our Birth Center

October 27, 2022

On October 24th, 2022, Rachael and Jake Vossen welcomed their baby girl Aria Jane. Aria weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 inches long. Rachael is pictured wearing a nursing cover that all breastfeeding mothers receive as a gift from RAMC.

The RAMC Birth Center is staffed with registered nurses who have all received breastfeeding training through EMPower. In addition, we have three IBCLCs (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants) who specialize in the clinical management of breastfeeding and who deal with issues from simple to complex, as well as several CLCs (Certified Lactation Counselors) who also have specialized training. A consult can be scheduled prenatally if you would like to meet with an IBCLC to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about breastfeeding. Once you deliver your baby, our nurses will assist you during your hospital stay to help get breastfeeding off to a great start! Finally, a breastfeeding support appointment will be scheduled for mom and baby in the Birth Center within a few days of discharge to meet with an IBCLC to put your mind at ease and ensure that breastfeeding continues to go smoothly.

If you would like to meet with one of our lactation nurses, or have any questions about breastfeeding at any time, please call 608-768-6251. We look forward to supporting you on your journey!
