RAMC Lactation Program: Empowering Families with Breastfeeding Support

March 8, 2022

In the Birth Center, all of our staff nurses have been trained in lactation support. They will help you and your baby get breastfeeding on the right path and will provide you with education for success in the hospital and once you’re home.

We are proud to have International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) on staff.

A recent family, Morgan and Jade Royston, pictured here with baby, Deklyn Marie, born on March 5, had focused lactation support during their stay. They commented on how helpful it was to have nurses who are skilled with breastfeeding support with the feedings after delivery. “It made us feel well-cared for and better prepared for discharge.”

Before leaving the hospital, parents are scheduled for a postpartum follow up appointment with one of our lactation consultants. Olivia and Thunder Decorah, with infant son, Reign Stanley, born on March 1, felt thankful to know they would have their questions answered during this appointment and leave with an updated plan of care. They shared that knowing the lactation consultant would see us within a few days after birth to assess and weigh Reign before and after a feeding helped them get through the first days home. “At the visit, we felt reassured hearing these professional nurses [IBCLCs] say everything was going alright – it was such a relief!”

The RAMC Birth Center staff welcome breastfeeding questions any time during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond…as long as your breastfeeding journey continues!
