Reedsburg is an enterprising community located in Sauk County, Wisconsin in the center of one of Wisconsin's busiest vacation areas, midway between LaCrosse and Madison, 2 1/2 hours from Milwaukee. It is within a half hour of major attractions such as Wisconsin Dells, Circus World Museum, Devil's Lake State Park, Mid-Continent Railway Museum and less than an hour away from the House on the Rock.

Wisconsins dairyland, Reedsburg is self-proclaimed as the "Butter Capital of America" because the Wisconsin Dairies plant her produces an average of 50,000,000 lbs. of butter each year. Reedsburg lies directly on the 90th meridian, making it the only city in the state where the sun and the clock both have the correct time.
The "progressive and fast growing" city population is approximately 8,000 and the health service area is 27,000. The landscape surrounding Reedsburg is beautiful wooded, rolling hills and valleys. Farming, light and moderate industry and professional businesses provide the economic base of the community. Reedsburg has a modern industrial park that has seen several expansions in the past few years. Space is available for further expansion.

Reedsburg Family Medical Building

The medical community includes Reedsburg Physicians Group, which consists of nine Family Physicians, an internist, a non-invasive cardiologist, pediatrician, and four nurse practitioners. There are two Board Certified Orthopedists, employees of Reedsburg Area Medical Center and two independent Board Certified general surgeons. Most of the medical staff in town have their offices in the Reedsburg Family Medical Building, which is physically attached to Reedsburg Area Medical Center.
RAMC
The hospital was built in 1976 and completed an expansion/remodeling program in 1994-1996 and 1998. The hospital is a critical access hospital with 25 beds, four new surgical suites, four ICU beds, LDRP Birthing Suites, emergency room, a new surgery center and consultant exam rooms. There are currently 20 active staff physicians and over 50 consulting specialist physicians that come to the hospital on a daily basis. The Orthopedic Surgeons and Consulting Specialists practice in the new Medical Speciality Center, attached to the hopsital and Surgery Center.
Specialty centers are located 60 miles away in Madison and we maintain excellent consultation relationships with many of the specialists. The distance has been shortened considerably by the use of helicopter transportation for emergencies.
Reedsburg Area Medical Center organizes continuing education programs that meet AMA CME requirements and may meet specialty board requirements.
The hospital provides or arranges for such services as: CT scanning, ultrasound, EEG, EKG, EMG, laboratory, anesthesiology, occupational, speech and physical therapies, Cardiac Rehab., and occupational medicine. Outpatient consultations are provided in dermatology, allergy, ophthalmology, ENT, pathology, cardiology, urology, neurology, nuclear medicine, oncology and echocardiography. The emergency room is staffed full-time, 24-hours, by ER physicians.
Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center, located on the Reedsburg Area Medical Center campus, consists of a 50-bed long term care unit and 24-apartment assisted living facility, and is designed around a neighborhood concept with residential living wings extended from the Main Street and Towne Square area.

Recreational opportunities can be found on several nearby rivers and lakes - boating, canoeing, fishing, sailing, swimming and skiing. Hunting, golf, tennis, softball, downhill, and cross country skiing and ice skating are also popular and readily available. The 400 Trail for bicyclists also originates in Reedsburg.
Children's activities include opportunities in organized baseball, soccer, hockey, dance and gymnastics. There is an excellent park system, within the city of Reedsburg, providing safe recreation within walking distance of all city housing areas.
Education
The Reedsburg School District has an enrollment of approximately 2,150 students and serves an area of approximately 250 square miles. The district maintains a high school, built in 1998, which is nationally recognized for excellence, middle school, and 3 elementary schools in Reedsburg and 3 elementary schools in the outlying villages. There are also two Lutheran elementary schools (K-8), a Catholic elementary school, and a branch campus of the Madison Area Technical College with a University of Wisconsin branch campus only 15 miles away.
Religion
There are fifteen churches of various denominations in the city which offer regular worship services.
Communication
Reedsburgs first class post office offers overnight delivery to any Wisconsin city. The news and advertising media are covered in two weekly newspapers; and Radio Station WRDB, offering AM at 1400 and FM at 104.9. All major television networks are received in the area and cable TV service is available to those who desire it. Telephone service is provided by GTE North, Inc.
Transportation
The Reedsburg Municipal Airport is located one mile from downtown. There are two runways, 4990 and 2660. T&J Aviation provides a 24-hour service, aircraft rental, lessons and charter service. Car rentals are available and there is also taxi cab service in the city. The Madison airport is 52 miles southeast of the city and provides coast-to-coast service.
Municipal and Utility Services
The city has a mayor-council type of government; a police force of 11 full-time officers and 4 dispatcher; and a 38-man volunteer fire department. The municipally owned electric utility purchases current from an interconnected supply furnished by Wisconsin Power and Light; which also provides natural gas to the city. The water supply is from artesian wells.
The Reedsburg Outdoor Club, which holds trap shoot sites along with both indoor and outdoor archery ranges, holds tournaments during the winter months and hosts its annual "Bowdown Showdown" during the summer around the Fourth of July.
The Reedsburg Country Club features an 18-hole championship golf course which is rated among the best in the state.
Reedsburg is located in the "Driftless Area" of Wisconsin, which means it was not flattened by the glaciers centuries ago as was most of the state. The hilly ridges and valley region around the city are a real treat to see, especially during the fall when the leaves change colors.

Things to See and Do
Reedsburg is a unique city which has had a steady pace of growth. The downtown area, as well as many homes, are listed in the Federal Register of Historic Places.
Reedsburgs citizens have an appreciation for their past as evidenced in the Reedsburg Area Historical Society Pioneer Village and museum located three miles east of the city on Highway 33. The pioneer village features a church, school, library, blacksmith shop and log cabins furnished with genuine pioneer articles, as well as other displays in the larger buildings. The site is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons from Memorial Day through September, 1 p.m. 4 p.m. Group tours can be arranged.
Another attraction in the area is the Park Lane Model Railroad Museum, located east of Reedsburg on Herwig Road off Highway 23. It features N, HO, O, and S model trains as well as operating train layouts and a gift shop. The museum is open daily from mid-May to mid-September. A nearby cheese factory plan in Carr Valley, located on Highway G south of LaValle features a viewing window and cheese store.
Mirror Lake, Lake Redstone, and Dutch Hollow Lake offer public access to good boating and fishing. There is a public beach at the county park on Lake Redstone which is very popular with swimmers. Nearby streams also offer trout fishing.
Sauk County annually is among the top five counties in the state for deer harvest during the deer gun hunting season. During the summer months deer can often be seen in the fields in the early morning hours and also at dusk. In the fall the Reedsburg area offers good hunting opportunities for both small game and deer.
In the wintertime, several nearby state parks offer challenging cross country ski trails. For the downhill enthusiast, Christmas Mountain ski hill is 12 miles east of Reedsburg off County H. Several other downhill ski areas are within a 45 minute drive. Sauk County has nearly 60 miles of public snowmobile trails, including a trail which goes through the city. The same trail connects with Mirror Lake and Devils Lake state parks and with the public trail system in Richland County. It is regularly groomed. The 400 Bike Trail is also open for snow-mobiling during the winter.
For the cyclist, Reedsburg is part of the Wisconsin Bikeway, a 300 mile route leading from LaCrosse to Kenosha, which was the first statewide bicycle route in the U.S.. The Juneau-Sauk portion of the trail goes through the city and features hilly terrain north of Reedsburg and relatively flat terrain to the south. The 400 Trail, opened in 1993, follows the old Chicago-Northwestern Railway and connects with the Elroy-Sparta Trial.
Reedsburg has a fine public park system. In addition to a sheltered picnic area, Webb Park features a municipal swimming pool which is open during the summer months. Nishan Park features softball and Little League diamonds, as well as a shelter for ice hockey with refrigerated coils. Oak Park and Webb Park both have public tennis courts. The city has a bowling center and a four-plex movie theatre with first-run shows nightly.
The third weekend of June each year, Nishan Park takes on a carnival atmosphere as Reedsburg hosts it annual Butter Festival. The celebration includes carnival rides, a large parade, a Sunday arts and crafts fair, a 10K road race, tractor, four-wheel drive and horse pulls, and a demolition derby.

Reedsburg is conveniently located in Wisconsin, 60 miles from Madison. The rapidly growing city population is over 9,000 and the health service area is 27,000 .
