Investing in Our Community - FY 2016

With today’s economy, it can be a hardship for area residents to afford everyday necessities, let alone medical insurance.  At Reedsburg Area Medical Center, we believe everyone deserves access to quality health care, regardless of their income level.  We also believe that being a non-profit medical center is both a privilege and an obligation.  Every day we strive to be a leader in community health. By meeting, and often exceeding that expectation, RAMC is strengthening our relationship with patients, visitors and neighboring communities.  Being a community partner is an awesome but important task, one we feel privileged to uphold.

A Helping Hand to our Neighbors in Need ~ RAMC’s Charity Care program helps 300-400 patients annually by paying a portion of or all of their medical bills.  For the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2016, Charity Care awarded $1,769,456 in financial assistance to patients of RAMC.  Charity Care is for patients who do not have health insurance and do not qualify for Medicare or other government-funded programs.  The total unreimbursed costs of Medicare was $5,892,958 & Medicaid was $4,162,507 while Bad Debt totaled $336,952.

Financial & In-kind Contributions ~ We feel privileged to actively support a large number of different community groups by donating goods and services, contributing equipment, supplies and paid personnel, loaning equipment or providing use of facility space.  In-kind support provided to community groups totaled $451,061 for 2016.

Community Health Improvement ~ RAMC strives to offer or support a wide variety of free or low-cost education programs for those who wish to improve their health or who need help coping with a disease or condition personally affecting them or family members.  Just a few of RAMC’s offerings include: CPR, Safe Sitter, Childbirth & Breastfeeding Preparation, Infant Car Seat Checks, Nutrition/Weight Management, Kindergarten Tours, Bright Smiles Toothbrushing supplies & education, On-site business Health Fairs, free or low-cost Health Screenings, Diabetes Education, Spiritual Care Coordinator, Consumer Advocate, Sports Injury Prevention, Advanced Directive Assistance, Health Education in the Classroom, Sleep Apnea Screening, Health 4U, Sit to Quit Mindfulness Program, Grief Support, Farmer’s Markets. . . and so much more.  2016 contributions totaled $272,127 and impacted over 22,000 community members.

Education for Staff, including Student Facilitation ~ This is the cost to educate our staff, above & beyond minimum job requirements.  We are also pleased to be a site for Medical, Nursing & Physician Assistant students that visit us for multiple weeks of on-site training and mentoring. This total is valued at $218,504.

Community Building Activities ~ We are proud to encourage our employees to give back to our community on their staff time.  In addition to their job responsibilities, they take on additional roles in Reedsburg by serving on local boards and committees, serving at food pantries and community meals, and so much more.  This staff involvement is valued at $90,834.

Non-profit hospitals like Reedsburg Area Medical Center exist to serve our city & surrounding communities.  RAMC’s total investment in our community for fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2016 was $13,194,399.
