Reedsburg Area Medical Center has been named to the 2011 Wisconsin Governor’s Worksite Wellness Award list. The company’s employee wellness program received the Silver Award designed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Health. The award recognizes employers who promote a work environment that encourages and enables their employees to improve health and well-being.
“We are so excited to have our program achieve this level,” Kelly Nelson, Employee Health and Fitness Coordinator said. “I believe it is the expanding participation in our H.E.A.L.T.H. Incentive Program that has brought us to this level. H.E.A.L.T.H. stands for Helping Employees Achieve Lifelong Total Health. The program’s focus is on prevention as the key solution to the growing health care crisis. With the continued support of our administration and our own Health & Fitness Committee, we are controlling health care costs, while providing the opportunity for our employees to be healthier, happier and more productive in their personal lives, as well as their professional lives.”
To help the employees succeed in their healthy endeavors, the company offers their employees free group fitness classes, free nutrition counseling, free onsite access to fitness equipment, monthly health education presentations, and discounted on-site personal training.
In addition to the benefits to employees that improved health and well-being provides, a healthier worksite results in numerous benefits to the employer as well. Studies show that worksites that employ an evidence-based wellness program experience decreased health care costs, increased employee productivity and increased morale.
Applications for the award are evaluated on criteria that include:
Program infrastructure
Health education
Health screening and disease prevention & management
Physical activity and nutrition components
